St. Benedict organizes the monastic life on three grand axes on which every endeavour spins and which grantees the equilibrium of the vocation: common prayer, personal prayer and lectio, work.

St. Benedict makes reference to activities that have always been connected to the monastic life: hospitality, education of children, the cultivation of art and intellectual work. The risks regarding these things are never lacking, and it is not out of place to point out one or two of these aspects.

The monastery is not primarily a place for receiving guests nor can a school, college or university be one of its ends; it is not even a conservatory or an academy. It can however, without a doubt, have one or another of these activities as long as the essence of the Rule of St. Benedict is respected.
